Men, as far as I know, are expected to open doors for women. I figure any man who was raised halfway decent does this. What just happened to me got me thinking.
I was walking outside to have a cigarette, been one of those days. A woman was walking in front of me as I was walking out of the building. She opened the door, looked over her shoulder right at me, and kept going letting the door almost close on me. I was a little surprised at this.
Men are expected to hold the door open for women. As I stated, I do this not only for women but for men too. I always check behind me to see if someone is there. It is the right thing to do. So are women not expected to do the same? Am I crazy for thinking what this woman did was downright rude? In this day and age I would think it to be normal for a woman to hold open a door for a man. Do I expect them to open my car door for me? No, but some common decency would be nice.
People truly do amaze me. I say this a lot but it is true. Some people just lack common decency.

You're right...
24 December 2007 - 1:46am — battye (not verified)The woman was rude. Common decency has gone out the window it seems. I always make an effort to keep the door open for someone behind me though. Even if you are in a hurry, it's not hard to keep it back long enough so that the next person can get through.

24 December 2007 - 5:30pm — trish (not verified)Obviously the woman is an asshole.... but..... I hold open the door for alot of people when I am leaving a store, I do it for men and women, but would you know, a lot of the men dont say thank you. I dont know what is wrong with them. Believe me, I am not sticking up for this woman at all, and I probably would have said something not very nice to her, I know my husband would have and has (it can be embarrassing), but if someone holds the door open for them, then the polite thing would be to at least say "Thank You". I think its terrible for this woman to let the door go.. so I apologize for her and may she have a shitty Christmas and may her car go into a ditch the next icy day.... and no one helps her. =)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family from me and my family =)
