Some People are Just Bizarre

Grinch's picture

After I get off the train in the morning I walk over to the Hart building to pick up a shuttle to take me to my building. As I was crossing the street I noticed about 15 people standing on the corner holding signs. This is nothing surprising in DC especially with the elections going on. I ignore them as I do most people. They are polite and appear to be handing out buttons. Nothing outrageous, they are not yelling, their signs are professional looking, and the people look professional as well. Apparently these people irked a fellow walker.

Some guy behind me starts yelling at them. Rambling on about how he doesn't go to their job and harass them. Another guy defends them and says they aren't doing anything wrong. The irate man tells him the police need to make them leave and how dare they do this to him. He repeats again about how he doesn't go to their job. Obviously this man is irrational and needs medication.

For one, these people were on public property standing on a street corner. Nothing against that at all, it is even one of our Constitutional rights. It appeared to me the man does not work on that particular street corner since he continued walking and was dressed in typical DC work attire. Second, the people were not protesting and were not being pushy. So I am not sure why they upset this man so much. Third, there was a Capitol Police cruiser parked near the corner and the officer didn't see a problem with what these people were doing.

If you work in DC you are bound to see protesters, picketers, political rallies, and your street evangelists. It happens daily around here. Either this guy is new to DC or has something against these people. Maybe he has an irrational fear of people holding signs. Maybe he had a naughty uncle that poked his bare bottom with campaign buttons when he was a child. Who knows for sure but this guy needs to get over himself. There is no reason to yell at people for doing something they believe in and is acting in accordance with the law. All you do is come across as a jerk and people like me will write about you on their blog. All he had to do was shut his mouth and ignore them or politely say no thanks. No need to cause a scene.
