I actually read about this yesterday but decided to take a day and think about it before writing. People who rape children are the lowest form of life in existence. These people should be executed but alas, the Constitution protects them under the 8th Amendment which deals with cruel and unusual punishment. While I can see why the Supreme Court did what they did, I still feel it is wrong.
A 43 year old man was convicted of raping his 8 year old step-daughter in 2003. He was sentenced to death. Of course he appealed it and won. Apparently there are six states that allow child rapists to be sentenced to death. This ruling by the Supreme Court will do away with those state rulings. Two rulings in 1976 and 1977 did away with the death penalty for rape. A person can only be executed for murder. So now the 43 year old gets life in prison with no chance of parole.
Let's think about this for a moment. It is true he will not be executed but his chance of survival in the big house is slim. Child predators are not well received by their criminal brethren. There are many reports of child rapists being beaten by other inmates and even killed. There are also reports of child rapists being separated from the general population to protect their safety. So maybe it isn't so bad he won't be executed. His life is going to suck for a very long time while he is incarcerated.
I will tell you what should happen to this man. He should be given over to the little girl's family and let them do what they need to make themselves feel better. Of course this will not fix anything but one child predator will be taken care of.
Child predators need to be dealt with in a harsh manner. Life in prison is not good enough. Castration would be appropriate in my opinion. Repeatedly tased in the balls over a period of one year may work. Have them raped and abused by other sociopaths might be good for them as well. The thing is there are too many children being abused by these sickos and the punishments are not harsh enough. A lot of them are released back into the wild which just blows my mind.
The only good thing is politicians have vowed to keep writing laws that condemn child rapists to death in spite of what the Supreme Court said. Both of the presidential hopefuls are also upset about the Court's ruling. So maybe there is hope after all. Some day child rapists could be executed, hopefully it is the most painful and agonizing death we can come up with. Hell, make it a pay-per-view event and watch the money roll in.
