Never a Dull Day in DC

Grinch's picture

As I have mentioned before, DC is an interesting place. Everyday there is a group of people protesting some thing or another. It could be the Iraq war, the President, Cheney, abortion, or anything that gets people upset. Today is no different and this time it is gas prices.

Some of you may have heard about the "strike" truckers did last week. For a short time during lunch hour, hundreds of big rigs and trucks drove 20 miles per hour on the Jersey Turnpike royally screwing up traffic. This happened all over the nation trying to get the government to do something about our rising gas prices.

Today in DC there are quite a few dump trucks circling Capitol Hill blaring their horns in protest to the surging gas prices. I'm not really sure what they are hoping to accomplish. The price per barrel hit $112 today which is not good for us. The gas where I live went up 24 cents in four days to settle at $3.45 per gallon and I can probably expect it to be higher when I get home.

It makes very little sense to me to protest gas prices by driving. You are still consuming the gas you are here to bitch about. You want the government to take notice? Stop driving. Yes, you heard me. Stop driving. Nothing will get someone's attention faster then by not delivering the goods your truck supplies. When businesses stop getting the supplies they need to make their profit and stopping the consumer from being able to shop will get someone's attention rest assured. But driving around in circles screwing up traffic is not going to get the job done.

I feel bad for the truckers. Diesel fuel is expensive and their trucks aren't exactly economic. They are feeling the pain more than us regular car drivers. Their job is to drive and to deliver goods. The higher they pay in fuel the higher our consumer goods cost. I am sure you all have noticed food prices have gone up.

So to all of you truckers out there, stop driving. Just stop it. Maybe when a congressman can't buy groceries because his grocery store is out of stock he will take notice and do something. Until then nothing will change. People will still go on bitching and the government will continue to not do anything.
