I normally do not include a preface to my tutorials but this one is different. This tutorial is not only informative but can be a nice fun gag to play on your roommate, co-worker, family member and friends. The ability to "lock down" a user profile is a well known practice amongst network admins. It is our way of controlling user behavior on the network usually to protect our frame of mind. Active Directory has made locking down users very easy. But what if you are not in a domain? How do you lock down a user in a workgroup? You can use local group policy but this will affect every user account on the computer including the administrator. The only way to do it for a particular user is to use the registry

If you follow this guide, you will end up with a user account that cannot do a damn thing. That is if you perform every single registry edit listed on the following pages. However, you could pick and choose certain settings to simplify your life as the admin of your small home network. Hiding certain things from users is a good thing.
