Appendix A - Terminal Services Installation
A-1 Installing Terminal Services
- Click on Start –» Settings –» Control Panel, then double click on Add/Remove Programs
- Click on Add/Remove Windows Components
- Scroll down the list till you find these two components, place a check Mark next to each and click NEXT
- Terminal Services
- Terminal Services Licensing
- Click NEXT on the next window
- Keep ‘Full Security‘ checked and click NEXT
- Choose ‘I will specify a license server within 120 days’ and click NEXT
- Select the proper licensing mode and click NEXT
- Select ‘Your domain or workgroup’ and click NEXT
- Once the install is complete click FINISH and reboot the server
A-2 Licensing Terminal Services
Note: To active the terminal services licensing you need to have internet access. This make the process go much quicker and simplifies having to fax or mail the information to Microsoft.
- Click Start –» Programs –» Administrative Tools ? terminal Services Licensing
- Click on + sign next to All servers
- Right click on your computer name and select Activate Server from the drop down menu
- Click NEXT on the Welcome screen to start the activation process.
- Select the Activation Method and click NEXT
- Fill out the company information and click NEXT
- Fill out more company information and click NEXT
- Leave ‘Start Terminal Server Client Licensing Wizard Now’ checked and click NEXT
- Click NEXT on the ’Welcome to the Terminal Server CAL Installation Wizard’ screen
- Select your license program and click NEXT
- Enter in the licensing information and click NEXT
- Select the product information and enter in the license quantity. Click NEXT
- Click FINISH when the wizard comletes
A-3 Configuring Terminal Services
- Click Start –» Programs –» Administrative Tools –» Terminal Services Configuration
- On the left hand menu screen select Server Settings
- Set the Terminal Server setting like image below:
- Click X to close window
- On the desktop, Right click on My Computer and select Properties from the drop down menu
- Click on the Advanced tab, click the Performance Options.. button
- Select Background Services under the Optimize Performance for section and click OK twice.
