1. Introduction
This step-by-step guide provides instructions for installing Citrix MetaFrame on servers running Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. The guide describes the process of installing 2 types of servers. The first server will house all MetaFrame settings with a SQL 2000 database, plus act as the front end interface to the MetaFrame farm from the web. The other type of server will be the Citrix Application servers which will host the published applications.
2. Installation Pre-requisites
2.1 Pre-Setup Checklist
Important! This checklist includes only the basic tasks you should complete before installing Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server. Be sure to read the Administrator’s Guides and readme files for MetaFrame Presentation Server and other MetaFrame components you plan to install as they contain important detailed information you need to consider before installing MetaFrame Presentation Server.
Before you install MetaFrame Presentation Server, make sure your environment meets the following requirements:
For MetaFrame for Windows (including feature releases and service packs)
- For a new installation of MetaFrame Presentation Server, the server should meet the following disk space requirements (this is in addition to disk requirements for server operating system):
- 400MB for MetaFrame Presentation Server
- 250MB for ICA Client Software
- 50MB for the Citrix Management Console
- If you have Java Runtime Environment 1.3.1 installed on you system, you need to uninstall if before installing MetaFrame Presentation Server or Citrix Management Console. The Java Runtime Environment 1.3.0 is installed by default with the console.
- You are running Windows 2003 Standard Server Operating System at Service Pack 1.
- Terminal Services is Installed and running in application mode on all servers that will be running Citrix MetaFrame. A procedure for configuring and activating the Terminal Services can be found in Appendix B
- If you intend to change the servers drive letters to allow users to retain their original drive letters on client devices, you should do so before you install MetaFrame Presentation Server. If you change the server drive letters after installing MetaFrame Presentation Server, you must do so before you install any application. To change the servers drive letters, click Remap Drives” on the “Install or Update MetaFrame” Autorun screen.
- You are logged on to the server as a user with local administrator privileges. Local administrator privileges are required to run Windows installer packages.
- If you are running Novell NDS, install the Novell client on the MetaFrame Presentation Server server and configure the appropriate NDS settings.
