2. Introduction

This document is for locking down a user profile. The registry will be heavily modified. It is a good idea to have a current back up of the laptop prior to performing these steps

3. The Registry and You

The registry is a database containing all of the information pertinent to making the operating system function as it should. Information such as windows settings, desktop themes, application behavior, and user data is stored in the registry. Making changes to the registry is serious business and should only be done by personnel experienced in recovering the registry in case of corruption. Some registry changes can cause certain programs to stop functioning while others can cause the system to not boot. It is extremely important to follow these instructions to the letter
