How to Install WSUS 3.0

Installation

  1. Open up a web browser and navigate to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/wsus/default.aspx
  2. Click on Download WSUS 3.0
  3. Download the version to be used
  4. Click the Save button
  5. Select a location to download the software
  6. Click the Save button
  7. The software will begin the download process
  8. Once downloaded click the Run button
  9. Files will be extracted to your hard drive
  10. Click Next on the Welcome screen
  11. Select Full server installation and click the Next button
  12. Read the licensing agreement and select “I accept the terms of the License agreement”. Click the Next button
  13. Click the Next button
  14. Select a location to store the updates and click the Next button
  15. Select the database to be used and click the Next button
  16. Click the Next button
  17. Select the website preference and click the Next button
  18. Click the Next button
  19. WSUS will now be installed
  20. Once complete click the Finish button
  21. The Configuration Wizard should open and click the Next button to begin
  22. Select whether or not to participate in the Microsoft Update Improvement Program and click the Next button
  23. Select the upstream server and click Next. This is the server you will be getting the updates from.
  24. Enter in the proxy information if necessary
  25. Click the Start Connecting button to connect to the upstream server to get update information
  26. Once complete click the Next button
  27. Select which languages will be supported click the Next button
  28. Select which products will get updates through WSUS Click the Next button
  29. Select which type of updates to download Click the Next button
  30. Setup the synchronization schedule Click the Next button
  31. Click the Next button
  32. Click the Finish button
  33. The WSUS management console should open. The server should be synchronizing with the upstream server. Once complete you will need to approve the updates downloaded. Expand the Updates node.
  34. Select an update to approve and right click. Select Approve.
  35. Click on All Computers and select approve for Install
