Installation

The purpose of this tutorial is to install SQL 2005 for the purpose of using it for various products such as WSUS. I will not go into detail about creating databases or database management.

1. Insert the CD and the SQL 2005 splash screen should appear

2. Click on Server Components, tools, Books Online, and samples

3. Read the terms and conditions and place a checkmark next to “I accept the licensing terms and conditions”. Click the Next button

4. Click the Install button

5. The installation will begin

6. Once the prerequisites are installed press the Next button

7. The setup will scan the computer’s configuration

8. Click the Next button

9. Check to see if there are any errors and correct them as necessary. Press the Next button.

10. The installation will begin

11. Enter your registration information and press the Next button

12. Select the components to be installed

13. Click the advanced button to install the files to a different directory. Click the Next button

14. Select Default Installation or choose to name the instance and click the Next button

15. Enter in the SQL Service account information. This example shows using a dedicated Domain account. Click the Next button

16. Choose the authentication method and click the Next button

17. Accept the defaults by clicking the Next button

18. Accept the defaults by clicking the Next button

19. Select how Errors and Usage Reports will be handled and click the Next button

20. Click the Next button to begin the installation

21. The setup routine will begin installing the software selected

22. Ensure there are no errors and click the Next button

23. Review the Summary Log and click the Finish button
24. Use Windows Updates to install any Service Packs and Security patches
