How to Install Active Directory

Installation

  1. Click Start -> Run
    2. Running dcpromo
  2. Type in "dcpromo" and press enter
    3. AD Installation Wizard
  3. The Active Directory Installation Wizard will open. Click Next
    4. OS Comaptibility
  4. The Operating System Compatibility window will display. Click Next
    5. DC Type
  5. Select "Domain controller for a new domain". Click Next
    6. Create New Domain
  6. Select "Domain in a new forest". Click Next
    7. New Domain Name
  7. Type in the Domain Name to be used. Click Next
    8. NetBIOS Domain Name
  8. The NETBIOS Domain Name will be displayed. Change if necessary. Click Next
    9. Database and Log Folders
  9. Select a location for the database and log files. Click Next
    10. Shared System Volume
  10. Select a location for the Shared System Volume. Click Next
    11. DNS Registration Diagnostics
  11. If a DNS server is not available the option to install DNS on the server will be available. This screen is dependant on the environment. In this instance DNS will be installed on this server. Click Next
    12. Permissions
  12. For the permissions window leave as default and click Next
    13. DSR Administration
  13. Type in a password to be used for Directory Services Restore Mode. Click Next
    14. AD Summary
  14. Review the summary. Click Next
    15. Configuring AD
  15. Active Directory will now be installed
    16. Installing DNS Service
  16. DNS Services will be installed
    17. Completing AD Installation
  17. Once complete click Finish
    18. AD Reboot
  18. The server will need to be rebooted

Active Directory is now installed.
