Failing at Sunbathing

Grinch's picture

I just read the most absurd news article. Two teenage girls were sunbathing in Maine and ended up missing limbs. Sunbathing is a dangerous thing to do if done too much. You increase your chance of skin cancer and can end up looking like a worn out leather purse if you are not careful. But this is the first time I have heard of people losing limbs due to sunbathing.

The problem with this particular scenario of sunbathing is the girls were sunbathing near railroad tracks. They were chilling on their beach towels on a trestle over Three Mill Pond in Maine. Apparently the freight train snuck up on them and now they are missing limbs. According to the report the girls had fallen asleep. I am a heavy sleeper but I think I would be woken up by an oncoming train. The conductor locked up the brakes and tooted his horn. This alone should have woken up the sleeping girls. Also the rumbling of the tracks should have worn them of the oncoming danger.

It is a shame the girls lost parts of their body but how stupid do you have to be to sunbathe on a train trestle? Pretty damn stupid in my book. I hate to say the girls got what was coming to them but how else can you look at it? The conductor stated the girls did not move. The police seem to think they tried scrambling away at the last second. In any case they failed at something as simple as sunbathing. Hopefully these girls learned their lesson and will not reproduce.

As sad as this sounds, as Forest Gump would say... "Stupid is, as stupid does". I can't help but laugh-somebody slap me!
